Book Review: Girl Online Going Solo by Zoe Sugg

Hey Everyone,

Today I thought I would do a book review. The book I am reviewing is Girl Online: Going Solo by Zoe Sugg.

I am a huge fan of Zoe as a blogger and a YouTuber but I also love her books and I have read all of the ones she has released so far.

I know some people aren’t a fan of these books because they are written quite simply and are probably aimed at younger readers but I love the characters in the books and love following their story progress throughout the three books.

I personally can relate to the main character Penny a lot and she is the one book character that I have read about that I feel most like and relate to the most.
There are many reasons I feel like I can relate to Penny such as that we both have red hair, both have blogs, love photography, have anxiety and love the cities of Brighton and New York.

The Girl Online series is centred around a girl called Penny Porter who has an anonymous blog called Girl Online. She hits a rough patch in her life and at the same time her mum gets a job in New York City so off she goes with her parents and her best friend Elliot. In New York she meets this mysterious guy called Noah and it follows how their relationship progresses.

Girl Online: Going Solo starts as Penny is starting the school year and she’s ready to face the world – alone. Noah has gone off the radar after ending his world tour early and no one, including Penny, knows where he is. So when she accepts Megan’s invitation to visit her performing arts school it seems like an opportunity to make some new friends.
Helping everyone else seems to be the right remedy – Elliot needs her friendship more than ever, and she meets Posey, who she can really help with her stage fright. But is charming Scottish boy Callum the right kind of distraction? And can Penny truly move on when Noah’s shadow seems to haunt her round every corner?

If I am being 100% honest, this wasn’t my favourite book of the series, I think the first Girl Online has to still be my favourite. However, there were still parts of this book that I really liked. I loved how Penny’s character has developed through the series and how in this book she is trying to figure things out for herself rather than focusing on her relationship with Noah. I also love Penny and Elliot’s relationship through all three of these books. I did like the new characters in the book such as Posey but I think the original characters will always be my favourite.
I did feel like the book didn’t really have a direct storyline to follow but I loved how it ended and I felt it brought the series to an end very well.
I’m not sure if Zoe is going to bring out any more books in this series but if she doesn’t then it ended in a good place.

Another thing I love about these books is that they talk about real life issues that affect many people and how different people deal with them – from anxiety, to sexuality to divorce. It covers a wide range of issues that affect many teenagers today and I feel like it was great that Zoe wrote about these issues in her books in a way that people could relate to them and that would help people deal with them in their own way. It also shows that you are not the only one going through these issues and there will always be someone else who is struggling with similar things to you.

I feel like because I read these books when I was/am in school myself and was dealing with similar issues to Penny, I found these books very relatable and somewhat helpful for dealing with the many problems you face as a teenager in school.

Even though this book wasn’t my favourite I would still recommend this series to anyone looking for something nice and lighthearted and easy to read.
Also, not going to lie, I would love to have my own Noah in my life!

I hope you enjoyed this post!

Tanya Bakes: Chocolate Chip Cornflake Cookies

Hey Everyone,

One of my favourite things to do is baking and over the weekend I made these amazing chocolate chip cornflake cookies from Tanya Bakes so I thought I would share them with you.
They are so easy to make and so yummy so would definitely recommend giving them a go!

If you want to give them a try as well as so many other amazing baking recipes, pick up Tanya Bakes here.

200g unsalted butter softened
300g golden granulated sugar
1 large egg
200g self-raising flour
200g milk chocolate chips
80g cornflakes
pinch of salt

1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/GM6.
Line two baking trays with greaseproof paper

2. Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, then whisk in the egg until smooth.

3. Add the flour, chocolate chips, cornflakes and sea salt to form a dough.
Divide into 12 balls.

4. Squash the balls down onto the baking trays, leaving plenty of space between each cookie, as they will spread in the oven.

5. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the cookies are golden.
Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Final Result:

January Favourites 2017

Hey Everyone,

Sorry there wasn’t a post last week, I had my mocks so didn’t have time to take photos and write a blog post. It might happen as it comes up to my exams that I don’t have as much time to write blog posts but I will try to make sure they go up regularly, even if it isn’t every week.

Today I thought I would share with you my January Favourites for 2017. I have a few new discoveries and also some things I have rediscovered. Quite a few of these things were Christmas presents that I have really been loving so I thought I would include them.

This month I tried out a new shampoo and conditioner and have been absolutely loving them. I first saw them when Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella) spoke about them in one of her Vlogmas videos and said she loved them and I thought that if they can make her hair look so great I had to try them!
They are more on the pricey side for a shampoo and conditioner but I have had these since the beginning of the month and I still have so much left – a little bit goes a long way.
They are the OI Shampoo and Conditioner by Davines and I picked them both up on Cult Beauty if you want to try them out – I would highly recommend them.

I don’t know if you could count this as fashion because it is more loungewear/pyjamas but I literally live in loungewear so it is my kind of fashion.
At the beginning of December, Lily Pebbles and Anna from TheAnnaEdit who are two of my favourite YouTubers and bloggers released two jumpers to raise money for the charity Look Good Feel Better and I fell in love with them so knew I had to buy them.
They released two with different sayings on the front: one saying “Loungewear for Life” and the other saying “#Nomakeupday”.
I picked up one of each but my favourite is the Loungewear for Life one.
They are so cozy and comfortable and I have been living in them with these cold winter days we have been having in the UK.

I think there are a few more of the “Loungewear for Life” jumpers left on the website if you want to pick one up but there are very limited now because they were put on sale quite a while ago but I would highly recommend them.
(I may have picked them up in two sizes because I love them so much….ooops!)

I am planning to do a whole blog post on these two jumpers so let me know if that is something you would like to see.

iPhone 7 Plus – At the end of last year my phone contract ran out and I had the opportunity to upgrade my phone and I had seen so many people talking about the iPhone 7 Plus and after doing some research I fell in love with it and decided to upgrade.
When I first saw the plus size phones come out I thought they were way too big and said to myself that I would never get one but when the 7 Plus was released with the incredible camera I decided to take the leap and go for the plus. Now I am so happy that I did and I don’t think I could ever go back to a smaller phone.

Misfit Ray Fitness and Sleep Tracker – This was one of my Christmas presents this year and I have been using it pretty much every day since I opened it. It is basically a fitness tracker that tracks your steps and sleep. I have a lot of problems with my sleep so my mum got this for me to try and help me keep track of how much sleep I am getting and I have really been enjoying using it. It connects to an app on your phone via Bluetooth so is really easy to use and keep up to date.

I have been wanting some new rose gold earrings for a while so my parents got me these beautiful earrings for Christmas and I love them so much.
They are tiny little sea urchins and they are so beautiful!

One day this month I was feeling really run down and stressed so my mum said we should watch a film and let me choose any film so I chose Frozen. We had such a lovely evening and even my mum said she enjoyed it and she doesn’t really like Disney films so it just made me feel really happy so I wanted to include it.
I love Frozen because of the songs and if I was any Disney Princess I would be Anna. Also, OLAF IS MY FAVOURITE CHARACTER EVER!! I literally love him so much and want a real life version of him! That may sound so strange and childish but it is true.

My mum knew my love for Olaf so for Christmas she got me a Swarovski Olaf Pen and it is literally my favourite thing ever!

I hope you enjoyed this post!
Let me know what you have been loving this month 🙂
