Today’s post is something a little different to the beauty and lifestyle things I usually post about but I thought it might be helpful for some of you so today I will be sharing my Travel Anxiety Tips.
I haven’t really shared this on my blog before but I have been suffering from anxiety for quite a few years now and one of my specific anxiety triggers is travelling.
I am travelling to New York and Boston tomorrow so I thought that this post would be pretty relevant.
I am by no means an expert in any of this but I have been lucky enough to do quite a bit of travelling so far in my life so I thought that I would share some of the tips that I have picked up over the years that help reduce my travel anxiety.
Always arrive early for your flight
I know that if I arrive late to anything it will instantly increase my anxiety so I always make sure to arrive early for my flight just incase there is anything that might go wrong.
My family have always been good at arriving early for flights but if your family don’t do that, maybe speak to them and ask if you can arrive at the airport a bit earlier than you usually do.
Always bring headphones
I never travel anywhere without some form of headphones.
If you are feeling nervous or anxious on the flight you can just put your headphones in, close your eyes and play some music – I have certain music that will make me feel calmer so I will play that.
Download some of your favourite films or TV shows
If you have some of your favourite films or TV shows to play on the plane it may help you forget about being worried and you can focus on the things that you really enjoy.
Take something comforting
Take something comforting with you on the plane that reminds you of home – this can be a scarf, a jumper, a blanket or whatever you feel will make you feel more comfortable.
I find that bringing something from home makes traveling that bit less stressful as you can just close your eyes and imagine you are at home.
Something random I always do when travelling, especially on long-haul flights is pack a pair of comfy socks and I find this really comforting.
Try de-stress sprays
There are many brands nowadays that sell all kinds of de-stressing sprays or other products that can be used to reduce your stress or anxiety.
My personal favourite is the brand This Works – they sell lots of different kinds of products but have a whole range of de-stressing products that can be used when travelling, before you go to bed or on the go.
I hope you enjoyed this post and that it helped some of you that also have travel anxiety.
Let me know if there are any tips that I have missed and you think would help others.
