Struggles Of Being A Red-Head

Struggles Of Being A Red-Head

Today I thought I would do a bit of a different post and talk about the struggles of being a red-head. I am a natural red head and I have had so many different experiences in my life relating to that so I thought I would share some of the struggles that go along with having red hair.

If you are a fellow red-head make sure to let me know and maybe you have felt some of these struggles at some point in your life!

Having to make sure you always put on enough sun cream when you go outside, even if it isn’t even that sunny…and always factor 50+
Plus always having people tell you to make sure to put on enough suncream…seriously like I don’t already know.
Fun fact: I actually HATE wearing suncream which is pretty ironic and seriously sucks as I’m ginger because otherwise I literally fry.

Always having people ask: are you a natural redhead?
Yes, yes I am!

Always being easy to spot in a group of friends or in a crowd because your hair always stands out

Never being able to find a foundation shade or eyebrow product that will match
Make up shopping is literally one of the most stressful experiences when it comes to foundation and eyebrow products.
Unless a range has like 50 shades of foundation there is a very rare chance that a foundation is going to match my skin colour…even the palest shade is usually not pale enough.
The only exception to this is my trusty IT Cosmetics CC Cream which I love and actually matches my skin colour despite having very few shades.

Not being able to wear certain colours because you look rediculous
Wearing the colour yellow…never gonna happen!

Always being jealous of my friends and family for being able to get a tan
There is literally no way I am ever going to get a tan in my life and I’ve just accepted that now but there is nothing worse than going to the beach with friends and family who tan and then being sat next to them when they are all brown and tanned and I’m there still looking like a white ghost.

Having people always compare how pale or tanned they are against your skin
On the subject of being pale…people will ALWAYS use my arm as a comparison of how pale or tanned they are and yet again, I will always be the most pale. Surprise, surprise.

Always having to find the shade wherever you go because you can’t be in the sun too long
I find it so hard to stand in the sun because I literally feel like I’m melting, even if only for a few minutes so I always have to make sure there is shade and I will desperately seek it out if I am somewhere hot.
My family are constantly having to make sure there is a seat in the shade if we sit somewhere outside otherwise I might just burst into flames.

So many freckles!!
No matter how much suncream I put on, even if it is factor 50+, I will always get more freckles! Like literally it’s crazy how many freckles I have on my body.
I have made it my mission though to try and not get any freckles on my stomach; they are covering every other part of my body but I am trying to prevent them from covering my stomach.
I also have this thing were if I am somewhere where it is cold and the weather is pretty bad and there isn’t much sun, my freckles aren’t really that noticeable but when I am somewhere hot and sunny my freckles seem to just pop out everywhere and get much darker and more noticeable…it is really strange but even my family members have noticed it.

If you hang out with another red-head everyone automatically assume you’re related
I have a close friend who is also a red-head and whenever we go anywhere together people always think we are sisters. Like if we didn’t have red hair no-one would think that so why does two having red hair instantly make people think you are related?
I also have a cousin who is my age and he has red hair and when we were younger people always used to think we were twins and whenever we hang out now with our siblings people always think that we are siblings rather than our actual siblings – I have no idea if that made sense but you get what I mean.

If you don’t wear mascara it literally looks like you have no eyelashes
Recently I have started to get my eyelashes and eyebrows tinted because if I have nothing on both my eyebrows and my eyelashes it literally looks like they don’t exist because they are so light and pale.
I can’t believe I only started tinting my eyebrows and eyelashes recently because it has made such a big difference and I no longer look crazy.

Everyone assumes your favourite Disney princess is Ariel
When I was younger the only red headed princess was Ariel so everyone assumed that she was my favourite Disney princess because she was the one red head in the bunch, when she actually wasn’t.
Don’t get me wrong I do love Ariel but she wasn’t my favourite princess.

You can never hide your embarrassment
Don’t even get me started on this! Whenever I get even a little bit embarrassed my whole face goes bright red and it is so bad and it is impossible to stop.

Going to the beach is a major undertaking
I have to take hat, umbrella, suncream, long sleeved clothing – it can be a very stressful experience!

I have a much lower tolerance to pain
So many people say this isn’t true but I can guarantee you it is and there is actually evidence to support it and I genuinely believe that it is true because I have the lowest pain tolerance and I don’t deal with pain very well.

THERE IS NO GINGER EMOJI!!
I think that’s all I need to say on that matter

My favourite ginger characters from Films or TV

As an addition to this blog post I thought I would add my favourite characters from films or TV shows that are fellow gingers in order of favourites.

1. Chloe from Pitch Perfect

2. Anna from Frozen

3. Scarlet Witch from The Avengers

4. Black Widow from The Avengers
She is now blonde in Infinity War but let’s just ignore that

4. Hallie Parker and Annie James from The Parent Trap

5. Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale

6. Clary Fray from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and Shadowhunters

7. Ariel from The Little Mermaid

When I was younger the only Disney princess that had red hair was Ariel so she was the only one that I could really relate to looks wise so when Frozen came along with Anna and Brave with Merida I was very happy that there were more than one ginger Disney princess.

I hope you enjoyed this post, even though it is a bit different to the posts I normally write!

Let me know in the comments if you are a fellow red-head and you relate to any of the things I mentioned in this post and if you have any to add yourself.
